ready for baby's arrival?

your hospital bag must-haves
what to pack for labour, birth and beyond

Packing your hospital bag is one of those “baby’s nearly here” moments. Whether you’re weeks away or just feeling organised, here’s a simple checklist to help you feel calm and prepared.
We recommend having your bag ready by week 36... just in case.

for you (during labour and birth)
  • maternity notes and birth plan
  • comfy nightdress or oversized t-shirt for labour
  • hair tie or clips
  • lip balm (labour can be drying)
  • snacks and drinks (for you and your birth partner)
  • phone and charger
  • tens machine (if using one)
  • music or hypnobirthing playlist (optional)
  • face mist, fan or flannel to cool down
  • straws or water bottle with spout
  • essential oils or relaxation tools (optional)

Getting ready for your hospital stay isn’t just about packing for baby, it’s about making sure you’re comfortable, calm, and cared for too. Here’s a handy list to help you feel prepared, supported, and focused on your wellbeing as you get to know your newborn.

for you (after birth)
  • comfy pyjamas or loose nightdress

  • dressing gown and slippers

  • big pants (think dark, high-waisted and comfy)

  • maternity pads (lots of them)

  • nursing bras or crop tops

  • breast pads (disposable or reusable)

  • toiletries:

    toothbrush and toothpaste

    shower gel and shampoo/dry shampoo

    deodorant

    hairbrush

    face wipes or cleanser

    moisturiser

  • towel (dark-coloured if possible)
  • dirty clothes bag
  • going home outfit (loose and weather-appropriate)

Bringing baby home is one of the most exciting moments, and having everything ready can help you feel calm and confident. From their very first outfit to the all-important car seat, here’s a checklist to make sure you’re prepared for those precious first days - whatever they may bring.

for baby
  • bodysuits and sleepsuits (3–4 of each)
  • vests
  • hats (1–2)
  • socks or booties
  • scratch mittens
  • nappies (around 10–12 newborn size)
  • cotton wool or water wipes
  • muslin cloths or bibs
  • swaddle or light blanket
  • going home outfit
  • car seat (a must-have for the journey home)
optional extras (but nice to have)
  • pillow or feeding cushion
  • camera (if not using your phone)
  • small change for parking or vending machines
  • a thank-you card or treats for your care team
